Our History and Our Mission

From the Love of a Father to his Children

From a desire to share the joys of the foods he grew up with in Sri Lanka, my father, Ashraff, founded a fruit and vegetable import business in Germany in 2002. Driven by his passion for bringing the flavors of his homeland to others, he moved the business to the UK in 2007, where it continued to flourish. For 16 years, Island Imports thrived as a family-run business, with my father and I working together to expand our reach and product offerings. We imported tropical fruits, vegetables, and groceries from countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and many more, providing the local communities in London with products from our culture and heritage that were otherwise nearly impossible to find in the UK.

However, after the challenges brought on by COVID-19, my father decided to step back from the business. Determined to continue what he started, I took the reins and have since carried on the legacy of Island Imports. Today, I am committed to ensuring that the vibrant flavors of our heritage remain accessible to our customers, continuing the work my father began with the same passion and dedication.

Our Mission

To bring exotic fruit and vegetables from around the world to you! With our trusted partners all around the world, we bring high quality tropical grocery to the UK and deliver them to your nearest local store.

Over the years we were able to build a strong brand and customer relations thanks to our consistent and reliable delivery, our quality checks on our products, and our simple and timely customer support. We strive to maintain that as we grow bigger, without compromising on the quality of the food and without forgetting who we are and how we started.

Current Operations

We currently have over 25 customers that we supply weekly with products we import, in addition to 10 other seasonal customers. We are currently importing from 7 different countries and in contact with suppliers with 6 other countries, aiming to expand our range of products and relations.

The fresh fruits and vegetables are imported via Air Freight, whereas grocery and long lasting shelf products are imported via Sea Freight. We collect our Air Freight goods from the airport, and from there, with our trusted Van, we deliver directly to our customers, who are owners of convenience stores all over London and nearby areas.
